THCa is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in all cannabis plants (marijuana and hemp), and is the acidic precursor of delta-9-THC. When heat is applied (by smoking, vaping, cooking, sunlight, etc.) THCa undergoes a process called decarboxylation in which the THCa molecule loses a carbon atom resulting in the psychoactive THC being formed. This is not only the case with THC but a lot of other cannabinoids as well such as CBGa, CBDa & CBNa.
